A massage chair can fit comfortably in a room and still fail at the delivery stage. The carton may not turn through the corridor. The main chair body may be wider than the final doorway. An elevator may have enough floor space but not enough door height or rated load. For importers, a suitable unit price can also be offset by an inefficient carton when freight and container capacity are calculated.

A workable massage-chair project needs at least four separate measurements: the upright footprint, the fully reclined operating footprint, the delivery profile of the largest piece, and the packed carton size. Weight also needs two definitions: net weight for the chair itself and gross weight for the packed shipment.

The Four Massage Chair Dimensions Buyers Actually Need
1. Upright size
The upright size is the chair’s parked footprint. It tells you how much floor area the chair occupies before the backrest reclines or the legrest extends. It is useful for showroom layouts, room plans, and the distance between multiple chairs.
Always check the order of dimensions on a product data sheet. Our current product tables use length x width x height. Other sources may use width x length x height, so never copy a number into a layout drawing without its labels and units.
2. Fully reclined size
The fully reclined size is the true operating footprint. It includes the backrest movement, forward slide, and maximum legrest extension. This is the number that decides whether the chair can complete a zero-gravity or full-recline cycle without touching a wall, table, door, or another chair.
Do not estimate reclined length by adding a generic allowance to the upright length. The mechanism, backrest angle, footrest travel, and zero-wall design differ by model. For a Forrest project, use the current model drawing showing both upright and fully reclined positions whenever room fit depends on those measurements.
3. Delivery profile
The delivery profile is the smallest safe shape of the chair or its largest module during movement. It may be narrower than the assembled chair if the armrests, side panels, footrest, or hood are designed to be removed. It may also be larger than expected if a model ships mostly assembled.
This is the specification that should be compared with the narrowest door and the tightest turn. A carton width, assembled chair width, and minimum doorway width are related, but they are not interchangeable.
4. Carton size
Carton size drives warehouse space, air-freight volumetric weight, LCL volume, and container loading. If a product ships in two or more cartons, the packing data should identify the length, width, height, gross weight, and contents of every carton. For commercial projects, stacking and approved carton orientation should also be settled before shipment booking.

As an early planning baseline, many full-size chairs are about 760-910 mm wide, 1400-1650 mm deep when upright, and 1780-2030 mm deep when reclined. Our current full-size models have published widths of approximately 700-780 mm and published product lengths of 1270-1550 mm.

Net Weight vs. Gross Weight
The two weights answer different questions. Confusing them is one of the fastest ways to understate freight or arrive at a site without enough handling capacity.

A user’s maximum weight capacity is a separate specification and must not be confused with product net weight or shipping gross weight. If an online Forrest specification shows only net weight, request the gross weight by carton with the project packing data before asking a forwarder for a firm quote or approving an elevator plan.
How Wide Does a Door Need to Be for a Massage Chair?
A clear doorway of around 30-31 in (762-787 mm) is a useful starting point for many massage chairs, but there is no universal doorway width. The selected model, removable components, carrying angle, and turn immediately beside the door determine whether the route is workable.
The reliable answer is model-specific:
- Use the minimum delivery doorway width for the selected model, not only the assembled chair width.
- Check the installation instructions to identify whether the armrests, side panels, hood, or footrest are approved for removal.
- Measure the narrowest clear opening with the door fully open. Exclude the hinge, handle, closer, trim, and any object that reduces the usable opening.
- Check the turn immediately before and after the doorway. A chair can pass through a straight opening and still fail when it needs to pivot.
- Use the same process for the loading entrance, lobby, elevator door, final room door, and any intermediate doorway.
If the fit is close, do not plan on forcing the chair through or removing structural parts on site. How to Measure Doors, Corridors, Elevators, and Turns
When we review a project inquiry, the most useful site information follows the entire route from the unloading point to the final operating position. The narrowest or most awkward point decides the delivery, not the size of the final room.
Step 1: Measure every door
- Clear opening width at the narrowest usable point
- Clear opening height below the frame, closer, or overhead obstruction
- Threshold height and any step immediately outside or inside
- Door swing and the usable opening angle
- Space available to rotate the carton or chair immediately after entry
Step 2: Measure corridors and turns
- Narrowest corridor width after baseboards, handrails, cabinets, and fixed equipment
- Ceiling height, low beams, signs, lighting, sprinklers, and door closers
- Approach width and exit width at every 90-degree turn
- Available pivot space at T-junctions, landings, and room entrances
- Temporary obstacles that can be removed before delivery
For a tight turn, create a full-size rectangle from cardboard or floor tape using the largest delivery module stated for the selected model. Move the template through the route instead of relying on a diagonal calculation alone.
Step 3: Measure the elevator
- Elevator door clear width and height
- Internal car width, depth, and height
- Rated load and the combined weight of the packed chair, crew, and handling equipment
- Lobby turning space on both floors
- Freight-elevator booking, protective padding, delivery hours, and building approval
Step 4: Measure stairs and landings
- Clear width between walls and handrails
- Vertical headroom along the route
- Landing width and depth at every change of direction
- Number of steps, floor transitions, and any curved section
- Whether the delivery service is authorized and equipped to use the stairs
Step 5: Tape the final room layout
- Mark the upright product rectangle on the floor.
- Extend the tape to the fully reclined length and maximum legrest travel.
- Mark the required wall clearance from the model drawing.
- Leave a practical path for users to enter and exit and for staff to clean or service the chair.
- Check that doors, drawers, curtains, tables, and nearby equipment will not enter the chair’s movement zone.
- Confirm a suitable outlet and a cord route that does not cross a walkway.

20GP, 40GP, and 40HQ Container Loading
A container name describes the equipment, not the number of chairs it will hold. The final quantity depends on the exact internal dimensions, door opening, carton orientation, stacking limits, load distribution, dunnage, and whether the shipment is a single model or mixed.

Our current public specifications do not list 40GP quantities. When an order mix is defined, the loading decision should use the final carton dimensions, approved stacking direction, accessories, spare parts, and any market-specific packaging.
Why do we avoid a formula-based 40GP estimate? A carton that fits two layers in a 40HQ may fit only one in a 40GP. Length, width, and height interact, and a small change can remove an entire row or layer. A mixed-model order changes the pattern again. Send us the model mix and quantity so the loading discussion can be based on the cartons intended for the actual shipment.
Sample Air Freight vs. Bulk Sea Freight
A sample has a different purpose from a bulk shipment. Air freight may be justified when you need to evaluate massage feel, controls, noise, upholstery, packaging, or a project mock-up quickly. A full-size chair is bulky, however, so its air-freight chargeable weight can be much higher than its net weight.
Take the FR-500 carton as an example:
- Published carton: 134 x 80 x 123.5 cm
- Carton volume: approximately 1.324 CBM
- Air volumetric weight at a 6000 divisor:
(134 x 80 x 123.5) / 6000 = approximately 221 kg - Published chair net weight: 92 kg
The forwarder compares the actual gross weight with the applicable volumetric weight and uses the higher chargeable basis. Our current FR-500 page lists net weight and carton dimensions but not shipping gross weight, so a firm air quote still requires the project packing data. This is why our team does not recommend estimating freight from net weight alone.

Arrival, Moving, and Installation Requirements
Our current full-size massage chairs have published net weights of 62-100 kg before packaging. The move should be planned as a heavy-equipment delivery, not as a normal parcel handoff.
Before delivery
- Agree with the freight and local delivery providers whether service is curbside, threshold, room-of-choice, or includes assembly.
- Reserve the loading dock or freight elevator and obtain building approval for the delivery time.
- Provide the carrier with the carton count, gross weight, largest carton, and any lift-gate or forklift requirement.
- Clear the complete route and protect floors, walls, doors, and elevator panels.

During receiving
- Check carton count, model, shipping marks, and visible damage before moving the chair indoors.
